In addition to litigating, Mr. Walsh advises constructions professionals on risk management and claim avoidance, contract drafting, insurance coverage, reporting of claims with regulatory agencies, and corporate policies and procedures. Mr. Walsh also regularly lectures to architecture students at the University of Colorado – Denver, regarding the legal landscape in which these aspiring professionals will soon practice in Colorado.
Mr. Walsh believes that most construction disputes can be avoided through careful contract drafting, effective communication, and utilizing best practices both at the corporate level and in the field. However, Mr. Walsh is a determined and sensible advocate for those Clients entangled in construction disputes. Mr. Walsh strives to incorporate proven strategies and tactics, including early motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, and targeted discovery, to get the best possible result for the Client in an efficient, economical, and ethical manner.
Prior to joining The Holt Group, Mr. Walsh served as a legal intern for the Chicago International Dispute Resolution Association, where he clerked for arbitrators in the resolution of international business disputes. During law school, Mr. Walsh primarily focused on developing and strengthening his litigation skills and techniques, which earned him a CALI Award in the subject of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Walsh was twice a member of the DePaul University Vis Team, which competed against other law students from around the world in brief writing and oral advocacy skills. Mr. Walsh competed in tournaments in both Vienna, Austria and Hong Kong, China.
